The money raised for the CHS will benefit the agency’s runaway/homeless youth and its transition housing programs, said Missy Storey, program coordinator for the runaway/homeless youth program. Among its services, the CHS provides a drop-in center for youth ages 12-17 as a safe place for them one night a week.
The Shindig is in its fifth year and has been a positive event for the society, Storey said.
“It’s been growing every year. We’re hoping to raise about $4,000 the evening of the event,” she said of Saturday’s event.
Concessions will include Philippines Best, North End Tavern and Dave’s Grill Shack, Storey said. In a new addition to this year’s event, several craft vendors will be selling their wares during the Shindig, she said.
Storey said there will be a small change in location for this year’s Shindig, which will be held at 2201 Keever St., off 19th Street near the Memorial Bridge. This year, the activities and music will be held on the river side of the flood wall at the rowing center, instead of the grassy area inside the wall as in past years.
