Honey Festival fun this weekend in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG – The 2014 West Virginia State Honey Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at City Park in Parkersburg.

The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children and free for ages 6 and under.

The festival features a variety of activities, entertainment and displays. There will be crafts, a honey and wax show, honey and beeswax products, honey extraction and live beehive demonstrations, candle dipping and cooking demonstrations, historical presentations and live bee beards by Steve Conlon. The Henry Cooper Log Cabin Museum will be open for tours both days.

As part of the honey festival, the Pioneer Antique Auto Club will hold its 22nd annual Antique Car and Truck Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at City Park. The rain date is Sunday.

Registration for the car show will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The entry fee is $10 for the show and admission to the Honey Festival. A free T-shirt will be given to the first 125 entries. Cars will be judged about one hour after arrival. Some of the awards will be for Top 30, Best of Show, Best Original, Best Street Road and others.

* 9 a.m.: Festival Opens with Honey Exhibits, Arts and Crafts and Food; Coloring Contest (Kids Shelter)

* 10 a.m. Opening Ceremony (Stage); 2014 Honey Festival Princess Coronation

* 10 a.m.-noon: Future Gardener Session – plant a seed (Kids Shelter)

* 12:15 p.m.: Live Bee Beard Presentation (Pavilion) by Steve Conlon

* 1 p.m.: Mountain Poison (Stage); Bee Craft – make a thermometer (Kids Shelter)

* 2 p.m.: Mountain Poison (Stage)

* 2:45 p.m.: Live Bee Beard Presentation (Pavilion) by Steve Conlon

* 3 p.m.: Amanda Stevens (Stage)

* 3:30 p.m.: Suncatcher Windchime craft (Kids Shelter)

* 4 p.m.: Smith Family (Stage)

* 5 p.m.: Kenny McMasters (Stage)
