Border-Sheppard

Anna Adams Border and Roger Hoyt Sheppard were married in an outdoor ceremony at Fort Boreman Park in Wood County on Jan. 12.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Josephine Silman, of Boaz and the late William Adams. The bridegroom is the son of Betty Sheppard of Parkersburg and the late Ted Sheppard.

Escorted by her son, Christopher, and given in marriage by her children, the bride wore a tea-length mocha crepe dress with a cream lace overlay. The V-neck and the three-quarter-length lace sleeves were adorned with matching lace trim. The dress was designed by the bride and fashioned by Jackie Murray, friend of the bride. The bride carried a bouquet of red roses that matched her red shoes.

Her attire also included a handkerchief that has been carried by every bride in her family for the past 75 years as well a new one given by the bridegroom’s sister. She wore a mocha and cream pearl fascinator in her hair.

The Rev. Lynn Roush presided over the service, which was conducted near the wall overlooking the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers.

Two of the bride’s granddaughters, Lacey Dimit and Katie Mullens, were flower girls. One of her grandsons, J.J. Dimit, was the ring-bearer, who was accompanied by the bridegroom’s daughter, Scarlet Sheppard.

Following the wedding, a brunch was held at the Blennerhassett Hotel. The wedding cakes were individual “MaryAnns” re-created by Stephanie Middleton after the bride’s favorite pastry.

A single red rose, suspended in a bell jar, was featured at the registration table, along with a “marriage license” given to the couple at a Sadie Hawkins dance, when they were in junior high school.

In lieu of gifts, guests were asked to make donations to their favorite charities.

The evening before the wedding, a family get-together was held at City Souls Ministries in Vienna, hosted by the bride’s daughters, Heather Mullens and Rebecca Dimit, and the bride’s daughter-in-law, Naddine Border.

The bride is a delegate in the West Virginia Legislature from the Ninth District, representing Wirt County and parts of Wood County. The bridegroom is vice president and general manager at TheNewsCenter, which includes WTAP, WOVA and WIYE television stations.

Following a week-long honeymoon cruise in the Caribbean, the couple is at home in Davisville.
