Reagan dinner Tuesday

As the end of election season approaches, the Washington County Republican Party will host the 2016 Reagan Dinner on Tuesday at the Marietta Shrine Club.

Leslie Haas, party chairwoman, said this will be a relaxing and fun evening for the candidates, supporters and campaign workers.

“It’s been a long election season, and this is a nice reward for the people, supporters and campaign workers who have been working so hard during these many months,” said Haas. “It’s a nice evening and a good way to say thank you, and it serves as recognition to the candidates and elected officials who have worked so hard this season.”

Haas has been associated with the party for 15  years and said she remembers going to the dinner in high school.

“It’s something that’s been going on long before I came around,” she said. “My whole family would go to the dinner.”

According to Haas, all of the county Republican parties host their own Reagan dinners. The party is expecting more than 200 people to attend this year’s dinner.

“We have sold over 200 tickets,” said Haas. “There are a lot of our members that we haven’t heard from, so we’re hoping we’ll reach 300.”

Tickets for the event are $35 per person which includes a reception full of homemade food and desserts at 5:30 p.m., a catered sit-down dinner at 6:30 p.m., a celebrity dessert auction and a chance to hear from this year’s featured speaker, Millie Hallow.

She is the managing director of the National Rifle Association and serves as NRA’s liaison to The White House, Republican and Democrat National committees, and Executive Branch departments in the federal government.

Haas witnessed one of Hallow’s talks at a conservative conference in July and knew she had to be this year’s featured speaker.
