Small Business Saturday

From local reports

Small Business Saturday was founded in 2010 by American Express to help small businesses get more customers. Six years later, the day continues to rally shoppers nationwide to support local small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, Marietta/Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Marietta Main Street & Clutch MOV will be leading the local initiative to encourage our community’s participation in Shop Small Saturday.

Over 35 participating merchants in the historic downtown district will be open Saturday, Nov. 26, welcoming holiday shoppers. The Huntington Bank Elves will be randomly awarding shoppers with prizes of discount cards or free items from area merchants. All details for the day are available at The Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

The day will conclude with the Merry-etta Lighted Christmas Parade beginning at 6 p.m. Holiday-themed floats will make their way through Historic Downtown Marietta with Santa’s elves to hand out candy along the way, ending at the Armory Lawn for the annual lighting of the City of Marietta’s Christmas Tree. This year’s Merry-Etta Christmas Parade features a live radio remote from WMOA.

Additionally, the chamber is sponsoring a Pet Photo Contest on Facebook. The winning photograph will receive $25 in Marietta Bucks. Photographs of pets wearing the “Shop Small” bandanna must be submitted to Morgan Brown, MACC Member Services Manager, brown@mariettachamber.com by Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. For more information on the contest call the Chamber of Commerce at 740.373.5176.
