Businesses open doors Dec. 25
After a fun-filled day opening presents, spending time with family and celebrating Christmas, several places in the Marietta area open their doors for those wanting an escape from the chaos on the holiday.
Those looking for dinner opportunities may want to consider pizza or Chinese food.
“This is a corporate thing and we are open every year for Christmas and New Year’s,” said Christina Bules, manager of Domino’s Pizza in Marietta. “These are actually two of our busiest days.”
Domino’s Pizza will open at 4 p.m. on Christmas and stay open until 11 p.m. On New Year’s Day, it will be open normal business hours of 10 a.m. until 2 a.m.
“I know we’ve been open every year for at least the last 10 years,” said Bules. “My mom is a manager of a Papa John’s and it’s against their company policy to be open on holidays like this but we are.”
Empire Buffet will also be open on Christmas from 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Emanuel’s Bakery & Diner located at 286 Front St. in Marietta will be open for normal hours on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Emanuel’s serves food made from scratch every day including pastries, bread and more than 30 different ethnic cuisine items from around the world. The site is best known for its signature hummus.
“Business is usually about the same as any other day,” said owner David Labes. “People deserve excellent food even on Christmas and New Year’s.”
Emanuel’s will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.
For those looking to get a workout in after filling their stomachs with a Christmas meal, both Anytime Fitness in Marietta and Reno Fitness Center will remain open for their normal 24-7 hours.
“Our office isn’t open on this day but the gym sure will be,” said Jasmine Gutberlet, membership director for Anytime Fitness. “Members can come in whenever they choose on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.”
Anyone wanting to fit a movie into their Christmas Day can head to the Odyssey Theatres Lafayette Square 7 as they will be showing several movies.
“Historically many, if not most, entertainment venues are open on holidays such as Christmas, and this includes movie theaters,” said Gary Westmark, vice president of operations for the Odyssey Theatres Lafayette Square 7. “We are often told it is a family tradition to get together and come to a movie on Christmas day. Christmas day ends up being one of the biggest days of the year for movie theaters in general so it is important for us to be open for the public.”
Movies playing on Christmas Day include “SING,” “Assassin’s Creed,” “Passengers,” “Why Him?” “Collateral Beauty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and “Office Christmas Party.”
Residents looking to grab a drink with some friends can go to the Harmar Tavern or the Town House in Marietta as they will be opening their doors in the evening on Sunday.
“We open the bar only and the kitchen will be closed on Christmas,” said Robert Farley, manager of Harmar Tavern.
The Town House will open at 9 p.m. and stay open until 2 a.m. and the Harmar Tavern will open at noon until 2:30 a.m.
“This is always a busy day for us because it gives people a chance to see people that may be in town for the holidays they haven’t seen in awhile,” said Farley.
