Marietta birthday celebration

The Washington County Historical Society will continue the long tradition of commemorating “Marietta’s birthday” with a dinner and program on Friday, April 7.

The dinner will be served at First Congregational Church, 318 Front St., Marietta, at 5:30 p.m. Chair lifts are available at both entrances for access to the upstairs dining area. A pasta buffet by daVinci’s will be served, along with salad, garlic bread, beverages, and dessert. There will be a social hour from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. that will include a silent auction.

The program, “Lest We Forget — Remembering Washington County in World War One,” will be held at Peoples Bank Theater, 222 Putnam St., at 7:30 p.m. The program will consist of a wide range of speakers and regional musicians commemorating the centennial of the war and Washington County’s participation in that conflict. If preferred, transportation to and from the concert program will be available via the Historic Marietta Tours trolley for a charge of $3.

Cost of the dinner and program is $25 per person; $3 should be added if trolley transportation is to be used. Reservations can be made by calling 740-373-1788 and leaving a message. Payment for the dinner and program should be mailed to WCHS, P. O. Box 103, Marietta 45750, by March 30.
