Nonprofit board workshops planned

From local reports

Have you ever been on a nonprofit board? Are you on a board now? Are you interested in learning more about what it means to be a board member? Marietta College’s Nonprofits LEAD program will be offering two nonprofit board training workshops this spring for current board members as well as those interested in learning more about becoming a board member.

Nonprofit board membership has numerous benefits, including a variety of professional development and leadership opportunities. Plus it’s a fantastic way to network and build relationships with other professionals and community members. Of course it also comes with great and wonderful responsibilities.

Did you know that there are three legal duties that all board members are must to meet? And that there are ten common roles and responsibilities that boards must fulfill? Not to mention that whether your board uses Roberts Rules of Order or a consent agenda format, running efficient and effective board meetings are a must if you want your organization to be successful. Yet for many board members, much of this is new information.

Join us at on Saturday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business on the Marietta College Campus OR on Saturday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ohio Valley University. There is no need to attend both trainings, as they are identical. Choose the one that best suits your schedule.

The workshop will cover board basics; provide tips, tools, and handouts that you can take with you; offer time and space for seasoned board members to discuss what they’ve seen work, what challenges they are currently working through, and idea sharing; and offer space for those interested in becoming a board member to learn more about how to find the right fit.

The cost of the training is $20 per person. All participants will receive a certificate of completion from the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business at Marietta College. Call Amy Elliott Nonprofits LEAD Program Director, at 740-376-4559 or email amy@nonprofitslead.org for more information or to register.

Nonprofits LEAD, and the nonprofit board trainings, are supported by the McDonough Foundation, the Marietta Community Foundation, the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates, the Ross Foundation, and the Sisters Health Foundation.
