Shale Cresent USA reps economic roundtable speakers

Jerry James ’80 and Wally Kandel ’87, both representatives of Shale Crescent USA, are scheduled to discuss economic development opportunities in the Mid-Ohio Valley and what’s being done to promote the region around the world, at the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley at noon Wednesday, March 29, at the Marietta Country Country Club.

James and Kandel have been involved with Shale Crescent USA since its founding in 2016, and have taken an active role in promoting this region to the world.

James, a member of Shale Crescent USA’s board of directors, is the president of Artex Oil Company, a Marietta-based oil and gas company. James earned his bachelor of science degree from Marietta College in petroleum engineering. He has served as the president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and as chairman of the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, as well as the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers.

Kandel is also a member of Shale Crescent USA’s board of directors, and he is an international senior vice president with Solvay Specialty Polymers USA LLC, and the Solvay Marietta site manager. He has more than 30 years of industry experience in the chemical industry that spans four continents. Kandel is also a graduate of Marietta College.

The final speaker scheduled for the spring semester is Robert Litan (economist and attorney with Korein Tillery LLC) at noon Tuesday, April 18, at the Parkersburg Country Club. Litan is also headlining the Milton Friedman Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, in the Alma McDonough Auditorium.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a group of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 160 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic and social issues.
