Clues help sheriff track identity of skeleton

From staff reports

McCONNELSVILLE — Authorities believe they may know the identity of the human skeletal remains found by a man searching for mushrooms near McConnelsville earlier this month.

The original leg bones and skull were found in a wooded area near a campsite east of McConnelsville April 15.

Morgan County Sheriff Douglas McGrath said additional bones have been found and that he believed the bones belong to a man who went missing last year while on a fishing trip. That man had health issues and the sheriff said he doesn’t expect that foul play was involved.

McGrath said the Licking County coroner’s office would conduct an autopsy and try to help identify the remains and that the man who went missing had a felony conviction out of Florida so the DNA could easily be compared.

Additional personal items were found with the remains but McGrath would not yet release the name of the man he believes the remains belongs to until further remains are located and all are tested for DNA.
