Earth Day-themed events Saturday at wildlife refuge

From staff reports

The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will have an Earth Day Celebration full of activities for the whole family on Saturday.

The celebration will kick off with a morning of planting trees on the refuge followed by a fun-filled afternoon with ranger-led hikes, crafts, a story reading and other Earth Day activities for all ages.

Those who want to plant trees should meet at 9 a.m. at the refuge visitor center and bring sturdy shoes, snacks and water. One site will be accessible for all ages, with another requiring a 0.5-mile hike to access the site.

Tree planting is scheduled until 12:30 p.m. with the other Earth Day activities to be held from noon to 3 p.m. The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge is located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown.
