3 events in May, June at Henderson Hall

From staff reports

Three events are slated for May and June at the historic Henderson Hall on River Road off West Virginia 14.

The Pioneer Antique Auto Club will hold its annual Henderson Hall Antique Car Show starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Roy Meredith, organizer, said he is looking forward to a bigger showing than last year when more than 90 cars were on exhibit on the plantation grounds. The hall will be open for tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and concessions will be provided by Henderson Hall volunteers. Admission to the hall is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

A Civil War Living History Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 27. Civil War re-enactors from Carlin’s Battery D will speak with visitors about what life was like for a Civil War soldier.

Cannon demonstrations and events to educate visitors about weaponry and the life of a soldier during the Civil War will be part of the event. The hall will be open with regular tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The third annual Afternoon Ladies Tea will be held at noon and 3 p.m. on June 3. Limited to 24 per sitting, the cost is $25 a person. The tea is hosted by the Volunteers of Henderson Hall. Call 304-375-2129 for reservations.

This year’s event will include a tour of the hall and a special presentation of fan signals that date back to the 1700s and were used by the ladies of the day to communicate with other women or gentleman friends. In addition, traditional tea culinary delights will be included.
