Police/fire committee thanks public for support
Marietta City Council’s Police and Fire Committee discussed coming resolutions recognizing the Marietta Police Department on Monday.
Donations by David McIntyre, owner of Anytime Fitness in Marietta and We Lov Pets of Marietta, along with Manager Adam Johnson were recognized by the committee. The donations funded food and housing during a training trip in October 2016 for the city’s K-9 unit Edo and for supplied food for the dog.
Additionally flea and tick medicine will be covered by We Lov Pets and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12 held a pancake breakfast at Applebees in Marietta Saturday to raise funds to support training, vaccinations, checkups, food and other K-9 essential needs.
“The city is very fortunate to have these community members step up to support our K-9 unit and is thankful to those who came Saturday,” said Safety-Service Director Jonathan Hupp.
The Marine Corps League donated $500 Saturday in addition to the community members who attended the breakfast.
“I had pancakes with my wife there to support the fundraiser,” said Committee Chair Steve Thomas, D-3rd ward. “Those donations show that our community and organizations value the safety our police department provides to our city.”
Also, the committee put through a resolution recognizing the officers who put their lives on the line to save a woman in distress in the Muskingum River last week.
Officers Bob Ellenwood and Justin McElroy rescued Kimberly J. Vaughn, 52, of 125 Shamrock Drive, Oak Grove, May 14, after Vaughn was found floating face down in the river.
