Frontier seniors earn more than $926,000 in awards

NEW MATAMORAS — Several Frontier High School graduates were recognized at the 13th annual senior awards program May 21 or during graduation on May 26 with more than $265,000 annually in grants and scholarships.

The combined cumulative value of academic scholarships from colleges and community organizations that has been offered to 20 of Frontier’s 49 2017 graduates over the next four years is $926,678. Additional need-based aid was not factored in, and not all students or colleges provided financial information.

Student awards received include:

Dalton Lear Beaver: four-year member of Frontier Future Farmers of America (FFA); certificate of completion with plans to enter workforce.

Meredith Janelle Bradford: certificate of acceptance to Harding University; DAR Good Citizen Award; successfully completed at least one college class while in high school; top 30 percent; certificate of service for Cougars on a Mission; scholarships from Miller Trust and McCann Trust.

Alexis Lynn Brookover: Washington Scholars Award to Washington State Community College; scholarships from Delta Kappa Gamma, Local Development Association (FLEDA), Hank Morus, McCann Trust, Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, and Zonta; Academic Excellence Award; successfully completed at least one college class while in high school; completed coursework for College-Prep Diploma with Honors; top 10 percent; certificate of service for Cougars on a Mission; salutatorian.

Kevin Matthew Bunner: certificate of acceptance to University of Akron; scholarship from American Legion Post 64; successfully completed at least one college class while in high school.

Marley Leann Cline: certificate of acceptance to Washington State Community College; earned minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Zachary Joel Cunningham: Presidential Scholarship from Capital University; scholarships from Elks Lodge 477, Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, GleanerLife Society, Hank Morus, Marietta Civitan Club, McCann Trust, and Miller Trust; Academic Excellence Award; successfully completed at least one college class while in high school; completed coursework for College-Prep Diploma with Honors; top 30 percent; certificate of service for Cougars on a Mission.

Cala Renae Curtis: Academic Scholarship from Alderson Broaddus University; scholarships from Frontier Alumni Association, Frontier Local Development Association (FLEDA), Frontier Local Education Association (FLEA), Frontier Future Farmers of America (FFA), Matamoras Masonic Lodge #374 and Grand District, Miller Trust, Washington County Farm Bureau, and Washington Electric; Academic Excellence Award; successfully completed at least one college class while in high school; completed coursework for College-Prep Diploma with Honors; top 10 percent; certificate of service for Cougars on a Mission; co-valedictorian.
