Ham radio operators to hold field day Sat.

From local reports

PARKERSBURG – Several local ham radio clubs will be talking with other ham radio operators around the country and around the world this weekend.

The Parkersburg Amateur Radio Club will hold its annual 24-hour field day starting 2 p.m. Saturday at Fort Boreman Park.

The field day is a emergency communications drill organized by the American Radio Relay League. The event is open to the public.

Wood County Emergency Communications, which was established in 1983 by Kenneth Harris, does backup and overload communications for Wood County and all the surrounding counties. The group also works communications for the Half Marathon, Chick-fil-a road race, the cross country races at the Wood County 4-H Fairgrounds, and numerous other races throughout the year.

Wood County Emergency Communications will also be participating in the annual Field Day on Saturday and Sunday on Hendershot Farm Drive on Rising Sun Road near Parkersburg. Beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, the group will set up antennas and radio equipment at five different locations and continue through 2 p.m. Sunday.

Field Day is a 24-hour event where amateur radio operators can contact other operators around the world. The public is invited to observe the amateur radio clubs in action.

The Marietta Amateur Radio Club will also participate in the Field Day, from 2 p.m. Saturday through 2 p.m. Sunday, at the MARC Clubhouse at 618 Hartline Road at Whipple.
