2 Motorcyclists die on I-77

From staff reports

Two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash Saturday on Interstate 77 in Salem Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

John S. Long, 67, of Union, W.Va., was operating a motorcycle southbound on I-77 when it made contact with a pickup truck and trailer being driven by Willie Paulson, 62, of Senecaville, the highway patrol reported.

Long was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s office. A passenger on the motorcycle, Kristi J. Long, 66, of Union, was pronounced deceased at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Devola Volunteer Fire Department, Lower Salem Volunteer Fire Department and Washington County prosecutor were on scene to assist.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the highway patrol.
