Board of Elections meets Monday
The Washington County Board of Elections will be holding a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Monday to certify the validity and sufficiency of candidate petitions for non-partisan races turned in by the Aug. 9, deadline and any other business that comes before the board.
Third Thursday talk on Dr. Hildreth
The next Third Thursday Talk at The Castle will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday featuring “Samuel P. Hildreth: Pioneering Science in the Mid-Ohio Valley” by Derek Hennen. After finishing medical school in 1806, Dr. Samuel P. Hildreth realized his boyhood dream of seeing the Ohio Country by moving to Marietta. During his life, he gained renown for his research in the fields of geology and natural history, and is now recognized as a trailblazer of science west of the Appalachians. The cost is $5 for non-members, $4 for members and free to docents.
Parr Hill church homecoming Aug. 20
Parr Hill Community Church will have its homecoming at 4 p.m. Aug. 20 at the church in Beavertown on Ohio 7. There will be food, music and fellowship with friends and neighbors. Everyone is welcome.
St. Luke’s Episcopal rummage sale
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., will hold its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 in the parking lot behind the church. The sale includes hutch, tables, household items, clothing, books and games, holiday decorations and more. A special feature w ill be Hot Dog Lady in costume with food.
Yard sale at Marietta Twp. Park, rec center
A community yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25 at the Marietta Township Park and Recreation Center. The cost for one space and one table is $15.

The monthly meeting of the Washington County Veterans Service Commission will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at 706 Pike St., STE 1, Marietta.

Luncheon at Barlow Presbyterian Church
A community luncheon will be held at Barlow Presbyterian Church, Ohio 550 and Warrior Drive, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The menu is spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and desserts.
