Local barber retires; 53 years in the trade

Lyle Deming of Marietta, owner of Lyle’s Barber Shop, 530 Fourth St., Marietta, retired Aug. 29 after 53 years.

Deming attained his barber license in 1963 and worked at Neader’s Barbershop for a year and a half. He then went into the service. Then in 1965, he worked for Heyrock Barbershop on Second Street in Marietta, and in 1966, Heyrock moved to Scammel Street, where it is now, and he worked there until 1981. Then he bought Blair’s Barbershop in 1981, changed the name to Lyle’s Barbershop, and has been there ever since.

Deming will be married 50 years this month to Bonda Deming. They have two boys, Lester Deming of Charlotte, N.C., and Jerry Deming of Marietta. They also have three grandsons, Luke, Lane and Logan.
