Washington County Career Center Students of the Month

The Washington County Career Center honors its September Students of the Month, Sarah Slater and Benjamin Erb.

Sarah Slater is a Belpre senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and she is the daughter of Jeff and Mary Slater of Belpre.

At the Career Center, Slater is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization, Interact Club, and the National Technical Honor Society. At Belpre High School, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Marching Band. Additionally, she was a member of the Quiz Team during her freshman and sophomore years. Last school year, Slater earned second place at the BPA regional competition for News Broadcast Team. She has received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List and W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria of 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. In her technical program, she earned college credit and industrial certifications in the Adobe Certified Associate: Digital Video Effects, Digital Video Production, and Photoshop. Additionally, she earned both high school and college credit in American National Government. Slater is currently enrolled in college-credit courses for College Algebra, English Composition, and Principles of Chemistry I & Lab, as well as working on industrial certifications and college credit for Adobe Certified Associate: Illustrator and InDesign. English instructor, Sherm Koons, commented on special traits and roles Slater carries such as a diligent worker, great participant in class, and always goes the extra mile.

Upon graduation, Slater plans to attend Cedarville University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology. She aspires to earn a Doctorate in this field of study.

Benjamin Erb is a Frontier senior enrolled in the Building Technology/Carpentry program, and he is the son of William and Cindy Erb of Whipple.

Erb is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and National Technical Honor Society. At Frontier High School, he was a member of the Spanish Honor Society. He has received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, and W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria of 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. Last school year, Erb earned third place at the SkillsUSA regional competition and competed at the state-level for TeamWorks. In his technical program, he obtained a 10-Hour OSHA Card and is currently working on an industrial credential for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Additionally, he earned both high school and college credit in the courses for College Algebra and Principles of Chemistry I & Lab. English instructor, Sherm Koons, commented on special traits and roles that Erb carries such as kind, caring, and an all-around great student.

Erb worked for Thermo Fisher, during the summer, constructing bio-safety cabinets. Following graduation, he aspires to enter the apprenticeship program for the Carpenters Union.
