Guilty plea nets 60 days

A Parkersburg man involved in an armed robbery in Harmar in May was sentenced to jail in Washington County Common Pleas Court Monday.

William George, 42, of 12052 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg, had faced up to three years in prison for two original counts of aggravated burglary, both first-degree felonies, but pleaded guilty to complicity in robbery, a third-degree felony on Aug. 29.

George was sentenced to 60 days in jail with a transfer to the SEPTA Correctional Facility after 30 days to undergo treatment for addiction. He was also sentenced to three years of community control Monday.

The case involved a May 9 incident where George and co-defendants: Kattie Bishoff, 26, homeless; Felicia Jackson, 36, of 100 Simpson St., Marietta ; Aaron Sarver, 31, of 290 Congress Road, Belpre; and Dustin Riley, 32, of 735 Seventh St., Marietta, invaded the home of Cynthia Myers, 227 Franklin St., Marietta.

According to the prosecution’s discovery, Sarver kicked in the back door of the home and had grabbed a crowbar from George, then as the group entered the living room they shouted “where are the drugs?”

“The victim was a drug dealer,” said Judge Mark Kerenyi in court Monday. “The robbery was to steal drugs?”

Assistant Prosecutor Rhonda Mears said there weren’t any drugs in Myers’ home at the time of the invasion and that Myers had defended herself with a hammer she had in a bedside table.

But George confirmed in court with multiple nods to the judge that the motivation of the invasion was to find illegal drugs in Myers’ home.

“I”m sorry for what I did, I apologize to everybody that was involved,” said George in court.

“I’m sorry for what happened, I didn’t mean for it to happen.”

George is the fourth of the five co-defendants to be sentenced. Jackson is currently serving a 90-day jail sentence followed by three years of community control. Riley is serving a 90-day jail sentence with three years of community control following.

Sarver is serving a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty not only to a complicity in robbery third-degree felony charge in this case but also one count of illegal cultivation of marijuana in a 2015 case, a third-degree felony, possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony from a January arrest, and trafficking in methamphetamine, a fourth-degree felony charge from April.

Bishoff still has a warrant out for her arrest.
