Personnel issues on Wood BOE’s agenda today
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education meets tonight to discuss and vote on several personnel issues.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. today at the district’s 13th and Plum streets offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public, but those wishing to speak must submit a comment card prior to the start of the meeting.
Only two items are on tonight’s agenda for discussion. The board will recognize Makayla Burns, a senior at Parkersburg South High School, and Kamuron Mace and Gillian Thomas, both seniors at Parkersburg High School, as 2017 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award winners.
The board also will have a discussion of “issues concerning specific professional administrative employees of the board.” The board met behind closed doors Nov. 14 for a similar agenda item. No details about the employees or the nature of the issue have been released.
The board also will vote on several personnel-related items, including extending the suspension without pay of Williamstown High School Assistant Principal Jeff Bayles. The board unanimously approved suspending Bayles Oct. 11, with the 30-day without-pay suspension beginning Oct. 4. Bayles was suspended with pay Aug. 25 due to a police investigation.
State law allows for a superintendent to suspend an employee with pay without board approval. The without-pay suspension required a school board vote and must be renewed every 30 days.
The board also will be asked to consider the “suspension of a teacher employee.” The board does not give the name of the employee until after the board has voted to suspend.
