Men who can cook

to compete Feb. 10

The third annual Washington County Men Cook event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Marietta Shrine Club. Proceeds will again benefit the United Way 2-1-1 service. This service connect those in need with organizations that can help.

MOVP presents ‘Always …Patsy Cline’

Mid-Ohio Valley Players in Marietta, will present “Always…Patsy Cline” by Ted Swindley on Jan. 19, 20, 26, 27, Feb. 2, 3 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 28 at 3 p.m.. The show is based on a true story about legendary country singer Patsy Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Tickets are available at, the Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Marty’s Print Shop and at the box office prior to each show.

Financial workshops at the O’Neill Center

The O’Neill Center is sponsoring financial workshops, beginning Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. This five week set of workshops is presented by Kim Luft, financial advisor for Edward Jones. Enjoy a cup of coffee and brunch while increasing your financial knowledge. During this series of classes participants will get binders and certificates of completion, as they go along. Week 1 Stocks: The Nuts and Bolts, Week 2 Focus on Fixed Income- Learn about CD, Bonds Week 3, An Investors Tour of Mutual Funds Week 4, Tax Free Investing: It’s not what you make, it’s what you keep Week 5, Retirement by Design– how to use the above knowledge and apply it to your situation. Library speaker to talk about stoneware

The guest speaker at the New Matamoras Library’s Jan. 8 Coffee Break will be Jim Moore. He will talk about his collection of Stoneware jugs, many of which bear markings from towns up and down the Ohio River. Used historically for a variety of things – from pickling to food storage – these jugs and crocks can bring big bucks at auctions. The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the library’s community room. Coffee Break is a library-sponsored program held at the New Matamoras Library featuring guest speakers from around the community. Attendance is free and everyone is invited to attend. The first vendor/craft show will be held at the Marietta Church Of God from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20. The church is located at 501 Colegate Drive, Marietta. This event is to help raise money to purchase new Bibles for outreach ministries. Vendors are to set up at 7 a.m. on the day of the event. Spaces are $15 for one space and $10 for any additional space.
