Belpre BOE says good-bye to member

BELPRE — The Belpre Board of Education said farewell to a longtime member Monday and said a new appointee would be announced next month.

Belpre City Schools Superintendent Tony Dunn and board members presented a plaque to outgoing board member Bob Wallace Monday in honor of his 26 years of service to the school system. Wallace did not seek re-election in November and Monday marked the last meeting of his term.

Wallace said he has served as a board member for 10 years, representing two-and-a-half terms. Dunn said Wallace also has worked for Belpre City Schools as a substitute bus driver, an assistant principal and a principal.

Wallace said during his time as an assistant principal he also served as athletic director and guidance counselor.

“I’ve been proud to do it,” Wallace said. He thanked community members and praised the school system’s students, administrators, teachers and staff.

Board President Fred Meredith said the new member will be introduced at the board’s Jan. 15 meeting. Three people have applied for the position.

“Our new board member has been selected,” Meredith said. “They will be announced in January.”

The board Monday also unanimously approved member Brenda Church as board president pro-tem, beginning at the board’s Jan. 15 meeting.

The board will hold an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15, followed by a regular session at 7 p.m., at the Stone Administration Building.
