PARKERSBURG — A Marietta man accused of throwing tools at his girlfriend and striking her in the head faces charges on both sides of the Ohio River after being apprehended Wednesday morning in Parkersburg.

Jason Anthony Dick, 39, of 124 Tennis Center Drive, Apt. 3B, Marietta, was arrested following a pursuit, Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said. Dick was wanted on a charge of felonious assault in Washington County following a Saturday incident that left his girlfriend with severe injuries, authorities said.

Acting on information received around midnight Wednesday, officers began looking for Dick in the area between Lakeview Drive and 31st Street, the chief said.

“We had done some surveillance of the potential location in north Parkersburg throughout … the early morning hours,” he said.

Around 6:50 a.m., Dick was spotted driving a yellow Dodge truck, Martin said.

Uniformed officers attempted to stop him in the area of 12th Avenue and Hamilton Street in south Parkersburg, but “the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed north onto Hamilton Street,” Martin said.

The pursuit continued through several streets and ended shortly after Dick drove off of 12th Avenue into an open field, then attempted to flee on foot, the chief said.

“The officers exited their vehicle and quickly caught up to him and arrested him,” Martin said.

Officers used a Taser on Dick when he would not submit to being handcuffed, the chief said.

In addition to being held as a fugitive from justice out of Washington County, Dick was charged with a felony count of fleeing with reckless indifference by Parkersburg Police.

According to a release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Dick’s girlfriend told detectives that following an argument he threw two different tools at her, striking her in the head. He took her to Marietta Memorial Hospital and told hospital staff he was going outside to inform her family she was there. Dick did not return and did not contact the woman’s family, the release says.

According to the sheriff’s release, the woman suffered severe injuries, including broken bones in her face, and was eventually taken by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

A condition was not immediately available for her Wednesday evening.
