On Saturday, Dec. 2, Beverly-Center Elementary PTO held its 1st Polar Express Fun Run and Walk 5k. Participants were encouraged to wear pj’s and holiday costumes.

There was a great turnout for the first race — 121 registered runners. Medals for the first, second and third place overall male and female runners and walkers were given out. For the men’s group, third place went to Phinn Spindler, second to Jason Lipot, and first to Braden Lipot with a time of 22.29. For the female category, third place went to Miniya Berhne, second place to Mary Ruth, and first place to Cathy Borich with a time of 23.49.

Six other prizes were awarded as well (two $25 BW Bucks Gift Certificates, two poinsettias, and two Polar Express Baskets that included the “Polar Express” book and movie, popcorn and snacks donated by the Fouss and Spindler Families). Those went to the Henry Family (Ryan, Alana, Quinten, and Brenley) and the Lipots (Braden and Jason), Mary Ruth, Karen Meeks, and Robin and Marcus Hawkins. Best Overall Outfit went to Sara Bonnette.

The runners and walkers were also able to shop at a Scholastic Book Fair and Poinsettia Sale.

After the race, cookies were served and hot chocolate and Mr. and Mrs. Claus stopped by to take pictures with the PTO and hear what the kids wanted for Christmas.

Another run is planned next year.
