Woman found, search for possible second person

PARKERSBURG – Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens said the body of a woman was found in an SUV pulled from Laurel Creek at around 12:50 p.m. today.

Deputies, the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department, the Dive Team from the Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department and West Virginia Division of Natural Reources responded.

Authorities also began a search of the area near where the vehicle went into high water off Laurel Creek Road and Old St. Marys Pike. Personnel requested life jackets because the water remained high.

Stephens said a search is under way for another person who may have been in the vehicle. The search is being conducted by volunteer fire departments in the area.
