Not guilty plea in murder case

From staff reports

A former Marietta man pleaded not guilty in the murder of Patsy Sparks, a former cold case for which he was indicted in January.

Randy Slider, 56, was arraigned in Noble County Common Pleas Court Tuesday morning. The arraignment was originally scheduled for today but was moved up a day because of his attorney’s schedule. According to the Noble County Common Pleas website, Slider is represented by attorney Jack Blakeslee.

Slider’s trial is scheduled for July 16 in Judge John Nau’s court, with pretrial motions scheduled for June 13. He is currently being held in the Chillicothe Correctional Institution on unrelated sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery charges.

In January, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office announced Slider had been arrested on three counts of aggravated murder and one count of murder. Sparks, who lived in Marietta, went missing in April 1992 and her remains were found by hunters in Noble County in 1994.

Slider had long been a person of interest as he was seen with her the night she went missing, outside a Parkersburg bar.
