Man charged in fatal shooting

From local reports

PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man was being held Monday following an early morning shooting that resulted in a fatality.

Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens said deputies were called to 80 Aqua Circle in Aqua Isles trailer court off College Parkway about 1:19 a.m. Monday in reference to a shooting.

Upon deputies’ arrival, the parties had already left the scene and were transporting the victim to Camden Clark Medical Center, he said. Upon arrival at CCMC, the victim was pronounced deceased due to a single gunshot wound to the chest. Wood County Coroner Mike St. Clair was notified and responded to CCMC.

Stephens said the victim was identified as Eva Munoz, 27, of College Parkway, Parkersburg.

Michael Levi Gainer, 19, of 80 Aqua Circle, Parkersburg, was arrested on a felony charge of wanton endangerment with a firearm. He was processed and arraigned in front of Wood County Magistrate Jody Purkey on Monday morning. Bond was set at $300,000 cash and Gainer was remanded in lieu of bond and transported to the North Central Regional Jail.

The criminal complaint filed in magistrate court stated the defendant was “handling a firearm at a time when he knew it to be loaded with ammunition and at a time when he had been drinking alcohol while in possession of the firearm.”

The case remains under investigation by the Wood County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau, Stephens said.
