Career Center names April students of the month

The Washington County Career Center honors its April Students of the Month, Taylor Carpenter and Thomas Williams.

Taylor Carpenter is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Landscape Construction & Turf Management program, and she is the daughter of Chris and Amanda Hilton of Marietta and the granddaughter of George and Ruth Erb of Lowell.

At the Career Center, Carpenter is a member the FFA youth organization and holds the office of Chapter Parliamentarian. Additionally, she is a member of the Interact Club and Student Council. She has been on the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, and Merit Roll, as well as the W.I.S.H. List, in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. In her technical program, Carpenter earned industrial credentials for OSHA 10-Hour Training and Ohio Certified Landscape Technician (OCLT). Through College Credit Plus (CCP), she earned both high school and college credit in American National Government and College Algebra. English instructor, Chris Swarr, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Taylor carries such as studious, well-behaved, willing to help others, goal- and career-focused, timely, hard worker, mature, and a great influence upon her peers.

Upon graduation, Carpenter plans to enter directly in the workforce and attend Washington State Community College to obtain an Associate Degree in Business Management. She aspires to own a greenhouse business.

Thomas Williams is a Warren senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and he is the son of Michael and Christa Williams of Belpre.

At the Career Center, Williams is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and holds the office of Chapter Historian. He has earned awards for Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Warren High School, he is active in basketball and soccer. Outside of school, he referees games for the local soccer leagues. In his technical program, Williams earned both high school and college credits for Introduction to Nutrition, Manage of Athletic Injuries, Medical Terminology I & II, Personal Fitness Concepts, and Resistive Training. Additionally, he earned certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT) during his junior year. In May, he will sit for the Physical Therapist Assistant Certification (PTAC) exam. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, nominated him for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Williams carries such as mature, consistent, empathetic, caring, and great work ethic.

This fall, Williams plans to attend Hocking Technical College to obtain an Associate Degree in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
