John Church, owner of the Kona Ice franchises in the Parkersburg/Marietta area, makes a strawberry shaved ice treat for Megan Isner, an employee of Marietta Dental Works. Isner said she saw the event advertised on the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce website and decided to brave the frigid temperatures and Mother Nature’s own ice show on Tuesday to take part in the free event. Church said this is the third year for the national Chill Out on Tax Day, this year held on the armory lawn in Marietta. “We are strong believers in no taxation without relaxation,” he joked. Very few people took advantage of Tuesday’s event because of the weather but Church said the business picks up and keeps them extremely busy as the weather warms up.
