Meeting to support saving Barker House

The Washington County Historical Society will host a meeting to support the preservation of the Judge Barker House, a historic property in Newport Township that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has proposed to demolish. Significant progress on a plan to preserve the house will be shared, and public input for additional planning will be encouraged. The program will be at The Castle Museum, 418 Fourth St., Marietta, beginning at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting is free and open to the general public.

Newport alumni

banquet June 2

The 128th Newport High School Alumni Banquet will be held June 2 at the Newport Elementary School. Social hour will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. with dinner at 6:30. The cost is $20 per meal. Mail reservations to Ron Thomas, 70 Harris St., Newport, OH 45768 by May 25.

Hepatitis A clinics

in Marietta, Belpre

Due to the recent Hepatitis A concern, the Marietta City Health Department, 304 Putnam St., will be holding an additional immunization clinic from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. On Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. shots will be given at the Belpre City Building. Hepatitis A vaccinations, as well as all other routine vaccines, will be available. No appointment is necessary. Ohio Medicaid and most insurances will be accepted. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Beverly Post 389 hosts fish dinner

Beverly Post 389 of The American Legion will host a fish, fries and slaw public dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the post home on Fifth Street in Beverly. The cost is $8. There will be music by Tyler Welch.

Business networking luncheon in Belpre

Business leaders, managers, local residents, and civic and and nonprofit representatives are invited to Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Networking Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rockland United Methodist Church, 2300 Washington Blvd., Belpre. The cost is $14. The luncheon sponsor is Huntington Bank, with all chamber members and those interested in business development or networking invited. Lunch is by reservation only. Reservations can be made by calling The BACC office at 740-423-8934 or emailing info@belprechamber.com. The event is held quarterly, with a presentation from the sponsor followed by time for announcements from all attendees.

Marietta Christian School’s graduation will be at 6 p.m. Friday in the Marietta Bible Center Church auditorium at 4070 State Route 60. A PowerPoint presentation of the two students who are graduating will be shown. The school will also have its yearly closing program at this time, which will include the teachers and students with several demonstrations of what they have learned over the year. The program will include a message from God’s word, testimonies of the graduates, student awards, presentations of Bible passages, songs (vocal selections, and instrumentals — piano, violin, and recorder).
