Belpre Schools’ levy approved
Voters approved an emergency operating levy for Belpre City Schools Tuesday by a margin of 160 votes.
The levy passed with 959 votes for and 799 votes against. The 10-year levy will generate $1.5 million a year for the school system. Officials say the school system will run out of money by 2019-20 as revenue has declined while costs have increased.
“What a victory for our kids and our community,” said Belpre City Schools Superintendent Tony Dunn.
Belpre City Schools Treasurer Lance Erlwein said he was thrilled with the victory. “This is a monumental win for the kids, the district and also the community,” he said.
