2 men in chase arrested; third eludes police

PARKERSBURG — Two men charged with fleeing from Ohio were arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court late Wednesday.

Christopher William David Sneed, 20, Latrobe Street Mission, Parkersburg, and Tavaris Kquintez Williams, 29, 1319 Henrico Road, Conley, Ga., were arraigned before Magistrate Joe Kuhl on the charge.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court, Wood County Sheriff’s units were advised of a high-speed pursuit in which Ohio law enforcement was involved.

“The pursuit was crossing into Wood County on Interstate 77 from Ohio,” the complaint states. “As several units approached the area of I-77 and Emerson Avenue, units were advised the suspect vehicle, a white SUV, may have exited, turning onto West Virginia 2 North.”

After a search deputies located the vehicle on Five Mile Road, a short distance past the interstate. Units were advised there were three passengers, two black males and one white male, the complaint states.

The suspects fled into the woods and were traveling on foot form Five Mile Road to Ashby Ridge Road. While in the 800 block of Ashby Ridge Road, deputies saw Williams and Sneed come from the wood line to the main road, officials said. Deputies identified themselves and yelled for Sneed and Williams to stop, but both ran over the embankment, the complaint states.

As the suspects were pursued, other deputies were given the suspects’ locations. Again they were seen and complied with instructions to get on the ground and were taken into custody, officials said.

Kuhl set bond on both at $5,000 surety. At press time they had not made bond and were in custody awaiting transport to the North Central Regional Jail.

A third suspect in the chase was still at large Wednesday. Information on why the suspects were fleeing was unavailable.
