Civil War Roundtable Fall Origins of Freedom Field Trip

The Civil War Round Table of the Mid-Ohio Valley in association with the Blennerhassett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a fall 2018 Origins of Freedom Field Trip that will feature several important Revolutionary and Civil War sites in Virginia. The field trip will depart from Marietta and Parkersburg on Thursday, Oct. 18 and return on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018.

The central purpose of the field trip will be to honor the sacrifices of those with associations to Northern West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio who served in American Revolutionary or Civil War campaigns. Interpretation will be provided by Scott Britton, Executive Director of The Castle Historic House Museum in Marietta, based on original research centered on personal memoirs, correspondence, official military operations records, and other sources.

The field trip includes round-trip charter-bus transportation, one night of accommodations at the Aloft Hotel in Glenn Allen, Va., and two nights at Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites, Williamsburg, Va. The field trip will feature narrated tours of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville; Gaines’ Mill Battlefield (Civil War); Cold Harbor Battlefield (Civil War); The Mariner’s Museum, Newport News, Va., (Revolutionary and Civil War); Colonial National Historic Park and Yorktown Battlefield (Revolutionary and Civil War); an archaeological tour at Historic Jamestown (Pre-Revolutionary and Civil War); Historic Williamsburg (Revolutionary War) and a flag ceremony at Staunton National Cemetery (Civil War) to honor those interred here who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Cost of the field trip is $440 per guest for double-occupancy and $560 per guest for private accommodations. Hotel services include wireless internet, pool, fitness center and complimentary breakfast. Site specific visitor’s information, recommended dining venues, suggested reading lists, and updates will be forthcoming following registration. No additional meals or gratuities are included.
