Science teacher workshop

Local agriscience teachers Blake Campbell, left, and Abby Motter, right, work together to build a “pig” during the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program’s summer science teacher workshop at the Lafayette Hotel Thursday.

“With oil and gas booming in our area, in all the experiments we’re learning about today we’re also talking about the related careers,” said Campbell, who teaches at Warren High School. “There are teachers here from kindergarten through high school and the lessons are applicable across the grades.”

Campbell and Motter ended up getting first place in the pipeline pigging experiment between the different groups of teachers.

The two-day workshop is put on by OOGEEP as a means of public outreach and to aid teachers across the state in educating students on the industry.

“We’re preparing our students to have successful careers,” noted Motter, who works at Alexander High School in Athens County.
