Fort Frye committee to meet Wednesday
There will be a Fort Frye Local Schools Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the superintendent’s office located in Beverly-Center Elementary School.
The regular August meeting of the Fort Frye Local Schools Board of Education has been changed to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Beverly-Center Elementary.
Beverly church to serve free lunch
The Beverly United Methodist Church will serve its free community lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The church is located at 700 Park St. in Beverly. The church is handicapped accessible. This month’s lunch is being prepared by the Beverly Lions Club. The menu is brats, corn on the cob, baked beans, coleslaw, desserts from Lisa’s Sweet Stop and beverages. BrAva to host Family Fun Day Sept. 16
BrAva Family Fun Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Muskingum Park in Marietta. This celebration is all about local children with cancer. It is a time for families to get together, have fun, offer support, and for these children to see they are not alone. There will be free lunch, bouncy houses, petting zoo, carnival games and so much more. This is free to the community.
Pet adoptions at Marietta Tractor Supply
Tractor Supply Company in Marietta is hosting pet adoptions, a pet supplies drive and more on Saturday, as part of “Out Here With Animals,” its month-long event for animals of all kinds and the people who care for them. From 8 a.m. to noon, community members and their dogs, cats, pigs, goats and more are invited to make their way to the Marietta Tractor Supply to support local pet adoptions. The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley will be on-site from 8 to 10 a.m. and Sunnywood Rescue will be on-site from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Bring One. . .Take One Flower & Seed Exchange will be held on Saturday in Upper Muskingum Park, in the 500 block of Front Street. Those participating should bring plants at 9 a.m. The exchange will start at exactly 10 a.m. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions. People can bring either a plant, seeds or bulbs to share. Please label each so the new owner will know the name, planting instructions, color, bloom seasons, etc. Even houseplants are welcome. Those who have extra shovels, gardening tools, aprons, ceramic pots, unopened soil and fertilizer and garden declarations can bring them along and see what they can exchange for it. These items must be in good condition, clean and useable.

A Neighborhood Jam will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. This is a free concert and block party for the entire community. There will be music, balloon animals, face painting, games, inflatables and hands-on activities with the library and Friends of the Museum. The Union Ridge Wildlife Center will be bringing reptiles as well as an owl and hawk. There will be music by Plan B and the Marietta Ukulele Choir, an interactive drum circle with Lawrence Greene from Ugata and a sidewalk chalk art contest with the theme, “Nature’s Beauty.” The River City Farmers Market will have affordable healthy food (fresh fruit, and veggie stir fry) to purchase and the church will offer low-cost taco in a bag.
