Port authority’s annual meeting set for Tuesday

The sixth annual meeting of the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority will be held at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The event will be on the second floor of the Graham Auditorium on the campus of Washington State Community College.

The public is invited to attend to learn more about the role of the port authority in Washington County and the current status of economic development projects in the region.

Port Authority Executive Director, Terry Tamburini believes, “Things have changed and changed dramatically in southeastern Ohio. The new state private sector orientation for development and the decentralized regime have put us in a new light.

Maybe it’s partly the Shale play, but I think the structural/organizational change and the new mindset have heightened both awareness and our responsibility.

The Thermo and kin successes, downtown Marietta, Kraton investments, Riverview strength and MHS commitments, have been catalysts but there have been attitudinal changes which have spurred State respect and interest.”

Tamburini notes, “Key to recent change is John Molinaro, president and chief executive officer for the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG), the regional economic development organization serving 25 counties in southeast Ohio.”

John Molinaro, president and CEO for APEG will be keynote speaker for the Port Authority’s Annual Meeting. Molinaro was selected to lead APEG and work with JobsOhio and OABC in July, 2012.

The Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG) was created through funding from a JobsOhio Network grant and is a subsidiary of the Ohio Appalachian Business Council (OABC) who are focused on economic development. The OABC is the region’s first business roundtable and has emerged as a network of businesses focused on addressing regional challenges and supporting the pursuit of regional opportunities.

Molinaro is a recognized leader in growing the economies of rural areas through holistic, sustainable, place-based approaches, and his career has focused on economic and community development.

With 28+ years of experience, Molinaro’s successes include leading highly-successful efforts in the realm of business retention and expansion, workforce development, fundraising, assistance to manufacturers, and regional planning. In addition, he helped communities across the nation enhance their economies by pairing innovative economic development methods with proven, traditional economic development approaches. John Molinaro has a master’s in community and regional planning and is certified as an economic development finance professional.

“The creation of the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth as an economic development resource and partner on a regional scale is an amazing opportunity for Appalachian Ohio,” said Molinaro.

With my team, we continue to work on regional economic development strategy to support the many communities comprising the region and value the roles they play. We continue to build partnerships with local economic development professionals and the region’s businesses.”

Additional presenters for the SeOPA Annual Meeting include David Haas, immediate past chairman of the board; Thomas Webster, current chairman of the board; Michele Tipton, grant coordinator for the Third Frontier Internship Program; Jack Haessly, chairman of the ODNR tree farm committee; Darlene Lukshin, Community Development, OSU Extension; Jim Black, chairman ingenuity center committee; Dan McGill, chairman fundraising committee; and Terry Tamburini, executive director for the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority.

For the Tuesday morning annual meeting, check-in and refreshments will begin at 7:30 a.m. with Call to Order slated for 8 a.m. The group will meet in the Graham Auditorium across from the main building at WSCC, 710 Colegate Drive, Marietta.
