Local CVB takes part in Snowbird Extravaganza

The Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau recently participated in the 2014 Snowbird Extravaganza.

The show, held on Jan. 28 and 29 in Lakeland Fla., targeted active seniors who wish to escape the cold northern climate each winter for an extended stay in the south.

Jeri Knowlton, executive director of the Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, noted that Marietta can capitalize as a wonderful stop for these transient snowbirds during their spring migration. “I’ve done this show several years now and there is always an overwhelming interest in the Marietta-Washington County area from attendants,” said Knowlton. “There are a lot of Ohio natives in Florida for the winter, this show is a great opportunity to remind avid travelers of things to do when they come back to their home state.”

In just two days at the event, 850 of the 2014 Marietta-Washington County Visitors Guides were handed out.

“These people are looking for new places to explore during their travels and Marietta is the perfect stop for anyone traveling to or returning from Florida along I-77,” said Knowlton. “This show reaches an audience that might not normally discover Marietta, making it an invaluable resource towards promoting the area as a distinctive destination.”
