Riverview Credit Union celebrates its 50th anniversary
Special to the Times
BELPRE — Riverview Credit Union is kicking off a year-long 50th anniversary celebration with events during this week.
Riverview was formed in March 1968 to serve the financial needs of the Union Carbide Marietta Plant employees. Members were encouraged to keep their deposits in a share account so that money could be loaned to other members in need.
For many years, Riverview operated out of a makeshift office at the plant until it constructed an office in Belpre. In 2000, Riverview expanded its field of membership to encompass all of Washington County and a second office location was established in Marietta.
“Riverview began because a group of workers saw a need that was not being fulfilled by traditional banks,” said Mike Iaderosa, president and CEO of Riverview. “For only 25 cents, Union Carbide employees could join and gain access to loans.”
From those beginnings, Riverview grew to more than 5,000 members and offers services provided by other financial institutions in the region, he said. The loyalty of members have made Riverview’s longevity and success possible, he said.
“While much has changed over the past 50 years, what has not changed is our commitment to our members, our dedication to helping people, and our support of the local communities,” Iaderosa said. “We continue to be guided by a people before profit philosophy, which is reflected in our lower fees, some of the best loan and deposit rates, and commitment to superior service. We want to see our members succeed in improving their financial well-being and achieving their financial goals.”
Riverview members and nonmembers are invited to visit Riverview’s Marietta office on Tuesday or its Belpre office on Wednesday to join in the celebration. The celebrations will include a free lunch to be served starting at noon, free giveaways, and live radio remotes.
Other activities include:
– Offering loan and deposit product specials from March 19-April 30.
– Giving away two gift cards totaling $150 to a Riverview member each month.
– Performing 50 random acts of kindness throughout the community.
– Awarding the Cheryl Ann Fornnarino-Reeder Memorial Scholarship to a student attending Washington State Community College
