Victorian Christmas Home Tour & Tea Saturday

From staff reports

The Julia-Ann Square Historic District will showcase several historic homes decorated for the season during the annual Victorian Christmas Home Tour and Tea on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the tours will be escorted by guides in period attire, homeowners will share the history of their homes and guests will attend a Victorian Tea as part of the event.

Admission is $15. The tours and teas will begin at First United Methodist Church at 10th and Juliana streets at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the Candlelight Tour at 6 p.m. Tour-goers should arrive at least 30 minutes early.

On Sunday, self-guided tours will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. and admission is $10. There will be no tea and tickets will be sold at each house. This year’s tour features six homes so organizers urge participants to allow for the full three hours.

This year’s tour stops include: Van Winkle-Zelner House, 1209 Ann St.; Caswell-Smith House, 1024 Juliana St.; Crawford-West Virginia Baptist Convention House, 1019 Juliana St.; Smith-Knapp House, 1125 Juliana St.; Leach-Nicholson House, 1214 Ann St.; and Brown-Youngstrom House, 1027 Ann St.

On both days children ages 10 and under are admitted free accompanied by an adult. This year Father Christmas will be visiting one of the homes. Tickets can be purchased online at juliannsquare.org. For more information and reservations, call 304-422-9861.

Proceeds from the event go toward improvements to the historic district.
