Small business workshop planned
The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta will hold its next Basis of a Successful Start workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Washington State Community College’s Infinite Learning Center in the library building. The first half of the workshop will provide potential business owners with information on how to get a business started. The second half of the workshop guides participants through the process of preparing a business plan, defining their target customer and identifying the competition. The workshop is free but registration is required. Smoke detectors are offered to residents
The Devola Volunteer Fire Company will be donating a limited number of smoke detectors to East Muskingum Township residents in need. The alarms are available due to a donation from the Hancock Charitable Fund, via the Marietta Community Foundation.

Free legal advice clinic Wednesday
The Washington County Bar Association and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services will hold their next free advice clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., Marietta. Walk-ins are welcome. The clinics are for Washington County residents unable to afford legal representation (less than 187 percent of the poverty guideline).

Sign up for library youth programs
Registration is under way at the New Matamoras Library for the winter/spring Toddler Time and Story Hour programs. Toddler Time is an interactive program for 2-and-3-year-olds and their parent/caregiver. Story Hour is for 4-and-5-year-olds. Both programs feature stories, crafts, creative play and music. They will begin Feb. 6. Registration is required by calling 865-3386.
Belpre BOE will hold meeting Monday
The Belpre City Schools Board of Education will hold its organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center, with the regular monthly meeting to follow.
