Hospitals limit patient visits

Due to the heavy flu season, Marietta Memorial and Selby General hospitals are limiting patient visitation.

Visitors will be limited to two adults per patient in the hospital at any time; and no visitors under the age of 12 will be allowed.

Those who have a fever, cough, headache, joint aches, feel ill or very tired, or have other signs of the flu are asked not to visit patients.

The hospitals are seeing a larger number of flu cases in our Emergency Departments and in patients being admitted to the hospital. Most people with the mild flu do not need antiviral drugs and can care for themselves at home. Physicians advise drinking plenty of fluids, rest and treating symptoms with over the counter medications.

Those in a high risk group who develop flu symptoms should contact their doctor or seek emergency help when having other symptoms such as:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen.
  • Sudden dizziness.
  • Confusion.
  • Severe or persistent vomiting.

Flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with fever and worse cough.
