Michael Tobar’s Jazz Trio will present “A Melting Pot of Jazz Series,” a night of M&Ms, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at The Castle, 418 Fourth St.

The thrift store of the Western Washington County Food Pantry in Vincent is having a $2 a bag sale through March 7. Summer clothes will be ready March 25. Caldwell Elementary seeks students for 2013-14 kindergarten

In preparation for the 2013-2014 school year, Caldwell Elementary School is conducting a survey of those children who will be attending kindergarten this fall. Call the school at 732-4614 if you have a child who will be enrolling. Children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2013 must turn 5 prior to Aug. 1.

A World Day of Prayer event will be held Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Church, 312 Fourth St., Lowell. Civic groups needed for packing event

The Southeast Ohio Foodbank will hold its first Community Civic Group Commodity Food Packing Event Saturday. Area organizations are asked to participate.

Volunteers are essential to the Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a program of Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action, which provides food and other items to member agencies in 10 counties: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington.

PSEO meeting will be held at Warren

Warren High School will host a Postsecondary Educational Options information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the high school cafeteria.

Counselors will describe all aspects of the Postsecondary Educational Options program (PSEO), which allows students to attend college while still in high school. Students and parents who are interested or have questions about this program are encouraged to attend this meeting.

Any students who plan to enroll in PSEO must schedule a conference with their parent and guidance counselor prior to March 31.

Ham and beans will be served at church

There will be a ham and bean dinner at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22. There will be ham and bean soup or potato soup, served with coleslaw, cornbread, dessert and a beverage. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

Library classes on healthy dairy items

Cindy Styer, family nutrition program assistant with The Ohio State University Extension, will visit county libraries this month to teach about healthy dairy products. Participants will have a taste test of different types of milk and receive recipes to flavor milk. Library class dates are Feb. 20 in New Matamoras and Feb. 25 in Marietta. All classes are at 1:30 p.m.

Local HIV?testing available monthly

The Washington County Health Department will resume doing HIV testing Thursday and continue to do so the first Thursday of each month, with plans to add Hepatitis C testing soon. Those who want to be tested should call the nursing department to schedule an appointment between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted. Those being tested shouldn’t smoke, drink, eat, chew gum or rub snuff for 15 minutes prior to the appointment. Those as young as 13 can be tested. Testing is free.

Church youth group plan square dance

Our Lady of Mercy youth group at Lowell will host a square dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the church hall. Admission is $3 per person, $5 per couple and $10 per family. There will be a cake walk, country store and concessions available.

Health department will offer flu shots

The Marietta City Health Department, 304 Putnam St., will be offering flu shots on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The health department has flu vaccine for all ages in stock, including the flu mist for children and the high-dose vaccine for those over 65. There is a $10 fee for children and $25 for adults. Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.

Church fundraiser at community center

The Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Chesterhill will hold a church fundraiser at the Cutler Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
