Luncheon to celebrate Belpre Garden Club’s 75th anniversary

BELPRE – The Belpre Garden Club will celebrate a milestone anniversary next month with a luncheon, officials said.

Members of the garden club are expected to gather with city officials at 1 p.m. on March 11 at the Belpre Senior Center to mark 75 years since the organization began.

“We thought 75 years was worth a little celebration,” said club president Janet Robinson.

The club currently has 16 members who meet once a month on the second Monday at one of the home of one selected member.

“We like that our group is smaller so we can met somewhere different every time,” Robinson said.

Last year the club donated plants and time to maintain flower planters at the Belpre Public Library as well as Depot Park along with donating to civic projects and partnering with Belpre in Bloom.

“We decided to work in conjunction with the Belpre in Bloom project, which has been a big boost for us,” Robinson said. “The Belpre in Bloom project has allowed us to do things on a larger scale with more flowers and better enhancements.”

Belpre in Bloom organizer Leslie Pittenger said having the garden club’s members working with the city-wide beautification project has been helpful.

“I have learned a lot from them about plants and gardening,” she said. “We look forward to celebrating this huge anniversary with them.”

The Belpre Garden Club’s official flower is the iris with club colors of purple, pink and blue and a club motto of “make our community beautiful.”
