Semi flips on Route 50 bridge

PORTERFIELD – Eastbound traffic on the Blennerhassett Island Bridge on U.S. 50 was disrupted Tuesday morning when a truck hauling pipe overturned on the on-ramp of the Ohio side, officials said.

The tractor-trailer rolled over on the U.S. 50 eastbound ramp of the bridge around 10:15 a.m., officials said. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The load of pipe and diesel fuel from the truck spilled onto the road, officials said. Workers with the Ohio Department of Transportation were called to the scene.

The U.S. 50 eastbound ramp on the bridge was closed to traffic. The westbound ramp to the Blennerhassett Island Bridge and Ohio 339 also were closed. They were reopened later in the day.

Traffic was still flowing from West Virginia to Ohio, according to ODOT.

Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and ODOT crews responded to the crash. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were on scene for traffic control, dispatchers said.

The state police, fire department and sheriff’s office cleared the scene of the accident around 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Further details were unavailable.
