Historical Society holding annual picnic

The Washington County Historical Society Annual Picnic will be held Sept. 9 at the VFW picnic shelter on Pike Street. Gather at 5:30 p.m. to socialize. The meal will begin at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring a covered dish to share. Meats and beverages will be provided. Anyone interested in historic preservation, Washington County family research, WCHS membership or chatting with current members is welcome to attend.

Master Gardener program hits the road

The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Washington County will continue their Gardening Road Show Series on Sept. 12 with a trip to Mill Creek MetroParks in Youngstown. There will be a tour through Riverside Gardens with plant displays, roses of all classes, seasonal displays of annuals, perennials, flowering bulbs and scenic vistas. After the tour will be a catered hot lunch buffet and visit to the Shop in the Garden and/or the Observation Tower. After lunch there will be a tour of Lanterman’s Mill. The $70 fee includes bus transportation, all tours, snacks, drinks, lunch and educational handouts.

Dinner to benefit Little Muskingum VFD

The Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department will hold a roasted chicken or ham dinner at noon Sept. 8 at the department, 15015 State Route 26.

Barlow trustees move regular meeting

The Barlow Township Trustees will hold their regular meeting for September at 9 a.m. Tuesday instead of Monday.

Lawrence trustees moving meeting date

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Lawrence Township Trustees’ regular meeting for Monday has been changed to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department.

Planning committee to meet Wednesday

The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the new Washington County Emergency Operations Center, 204 Davis Ave., Marietta. Parking is available at the rear of the building.
