Man suspected in attempted Marietta bank robbery arrested

The man suspected in a failed bank robbery in Marietta last month, followed by a successful robbery of an Athens bank, was arrested Wednesday, according to the Marietta Police Department.

Ronald Eugene Corbin, 49, along with Dennis Patrick Gallivan, 58, both of Lafayette, Ind. were arrested by the Urbana, Illinois Police Department after an armed robbery at Urbana Bank. Corbin has been linked to robberies in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. Corbin is believed to be a suspect in the attempted armed robbery that occurred at Peoples Bank at 206 Scammel St. in Marietta on Aug. 26.

Corbin was out on bond from previous armed bank robberies that occurred in Lafayette, Ind. in October 2012.

The Marietta Police Department is working with the FBI and several law enforcement agencies that are affected. The investigation is ongoing.
