Water department to have adjusted hours

The City of Marietta Water Department will be operating under adjusted hours Monday through Friday due to training. The water office will be open to the public during the following hours: Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Newport Hometown Christmas Thursday

Newport Hometown Christmas will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with several stops. The stops will be numbered and marked with a sign. Sign up at each stop for a chance to win a free prize in a drawing. The winners of the drawing will be announced at 8 p.m. at the Newport Volunteer Fire Department Community Building. There will also be free food and beverages, Santa Claus, live entertainment, a cookie baking contest and a house decorating contest.

Thirty-One bingo fundraiser planned

A Thirty-One bingo fundraiser will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 14 for Kathy Carpenter at the Marietta Township Recreation Center in Reno. There will be concessions, a country store, a 50/50 lottery.

Program on wind power will be given

The December program of the Marietta Natural History Society will be presented by Andy Grimm, who will speak on wind power. Grimm, an associate professor of Petroleum Engineering at Marietta College was instrumental in installation of the wind turbine on the MC campus and will describe its design and utility for energy generation and education as well as U.S. and global wind power resources and technologies. The program will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 150of Selby Hall at Marietta College.

Gingerbread house event at library

Children ages 7 to 12 are invited to the Washington County Public Library in Marietta to make gingerbread houses at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 14. A snack will be served. Registration is required. To register, stop by the Youth Services Department or call 373-1057, Ext. 219.
