The Washington County Fair Board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the fair board office. The Jan. 9 meeting has been canceled and rescheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the fair board office.

The Washington County Public Library in Marietta will be collecting donations for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley through Sunday. Donations needed include: Quality dry food for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, collars (metal clips only please) and leashes, dog and cat treats, cat litter, cleaning supplies, unscented bleach, “Safe Paws” ice melt, and hand sanitizer. The Southeastern Ohio Port Authority announces meetings for December.

The City of Marietta Water Department will be operating under adjusted hours this week due to training. The water office will be open to the public during the following hours: today from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Newport Hometown Christmas Thursday

Newport Hometown Christmas will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with several stops. The stops will be numbered and marked with a sign. Sign up at each stop for a chance to win a free prize in a drawing. The winners of the drawing will be announced at 8 p.m. at the Newport Volunteer Fire Department Community Building. There will also be free food and beverages, Santa Claus, live entertainment, a cookie baking contest and a house decorating contest.

Donations needed include: quality dry food for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, collars (metal clips only please) and leashes, dog and cat treats, cat litter, cleaning supplies, unscented bleach, “Safe Paws” ice melt, and hand sanitizer. Fundraiser for HSOV under way this month

The 5th annual They Light Up Our Lives fund raiser for the HSOV will run through December. Animal lovers may honor or remember a pet by symbolically buying a light for $5 for the Christmas tree located at American Flags and Poles store. A living pet will be represented by a colored light; a pet that has passed away by a white light. This year an anonymous donor will match the amount collected.
