Marietta man charged with attempted murder of a police officer
A Marietta man is in custody after firing several shots at police officers during a five-hour stand off with police officer at his Spring Street home. William Bruce Ransom Jr. is being held without bond at the Washington County Jail on a charge of attempted murder of a police officer, a first-degree felony. Officers responded to Ransom’s home at 140 E. Spring St. around 12:15 a.m. today after his wife, Susan Ransom, called an ambulance because William was reportedly suicidal. Ransom fired at officers first inside the home and then through windows. He surrendered around 5:20 a.m. after officers used tear gas.
Officers from the Marietta Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and WCSO Special Response Team responded and the Ohio State Highway Patrol helped with traffic.
